Changing Trends in the Furniture Industry
Increasing importance given to design
Brand awareness begins to form
Increasing investments that support and encourage designers
The new trend in office furniture is the open office system. By using moving products, it is aimed that more people work comfortably in the same environment. The development and changes in the understanding of quality, aesthetics, functionality, economy and visuality are the prominent factors in determining the production trend.
Serious changes in this matter show the difference between generations. Horizontal and vertical relationships in office workers are once again defined according to today. As office hours have increased, the need for interactive workspaces has created open offices. Along with these concepts, comfort and ergonomics have started to be underlined with design. Of course, all conditions are integrated with other physical conditions, not furniture.
Generation X looks pretentious and Generation Y looks useful in office furniture
One of the most important reasons for the rapid change in the office furniture industry is the thick lines between the new and old generations. While the X generation, known as the old generation, insists on classical, flashy furniture and decoration like walnut, the Y generation designs its offices with more modular, soft lines and useful products.
Generation Y, who generally want working environments in the comfort of home, sees the choice of the old generation as "gloomy, full of depression". The new generation gradually taking the executive chair in family businesses naturally enlarges the office furniture sector. This perspective of the risk-free, disciplined, authoritarian and traditional generation X generation is also reflected in their furniture choices. By contrast, Generation Y, part of a much more individualistic, information age molded by change, pays attention to the appearance, comfort, and whether it will help them express themselves rather than the durability of office furniture.
While the majority of today's workforce is Generation X, it is estimated that by 2030, more than 50 percent of this rate will be Generation Y. It is predicted that the place of generation X in the workforce will decrease to 20 percent. Of all these changes, it will naturally affect the office furniture industry the most. In this context, design, innovation, R&D studies will gain importance.
